Packing and grading
Sweet potato packaging and size grades
Packing should protect the product, fit the sales channel and work with the shipping route. Size grading should reflect how the buyer will use the product.
Piece weight is often more useful than vague labels
Terms such as small, medium and large can vary by supplier. A numeric piece-weight range is easier to verify.
Carton weight should match handling conditions
Heavier cartons may reduce packaging cost per kilogram but can increase handling pressure and compression risk.
Retail packs have different priorities
Consumer packs may require labels, barcodes, visual presentation and smaller unit weights than wholesale cartons.
Agree on tolerances before shipment
Commercial specifications should state acceptable variation instead of assuming every piece will be identical.
